"The Spalding Method has been a godsend for my ESL students. Many of them come to me with "labels," but I quickly discover that their only problem is they have not been taught the alphabetic code. It is also delightful to observe the progress made by average and above average ESL students who have lacked success, but find it through Spalding. Spalding empowers students!

"As superintendent of Village Christian Schools, a coeducational K-12 day school with a total enrollment of 1950 students, I consider it a professional privilege to offer my strong endorsement of The Spalding Method. Over the past seven years, our standardized test scores have risen dramatically. However, the greatest gains have been in areas not covered by testing. Teacher enthusiasm, student self-esteem and parent support for our school have all increased significantly. Our enrollment is roughly 30% minority, 5% to 8% have a variety of learning problems, and we have many families who do not speak English at home and many students could qualify for the free and reduced lunch program. Thanks to Spalding, our students now do things in October that they were not doing until April. Would I consider changing to a different approach? Only if I were to find something more effective. To date, neither our faculty nor I have found anything more successful than this true multisensory, complete language arts program."

"The strength of The Spalding Method is that children quickly learn the mechanics of reading, freeing them to enjoy the benefits of good literature at an early age. Spalding is effective because its principles and methods of instruction are well grounded in reading research."

"I truly credit The Spalding Method with my success as a reading teacher of both regular and special education students. Not one of my Masters' courses in Learning Disabilities was able to help me teach my struggling readers what they most wanted to know- how to read. My students' new found joy in reading for pleasure inspired me to learn all I could about this wonderful method and share it with as many others as possible."

"As far as a language arts program, I highly recommend the
Spalding Methodology. It is an explicit, systematic, and proven
approach to teaching children to spell, write, and read. To provide
some idea of its effectiveness, both of my children are spelling and
reading above grade level, and have a reading/listening comprehension 4
levels above grade level."

"I want to tell you how pleased we are with The Spalding
Method. I start my children at age five learning their phonograms, and by the
end of the year, they can read. My 8 year old girl is reading at 6th-7th grade
level, spelling at 5th grade level, and writing quite well. Although she just
turned 8 in October, and would only be in second grade in public school, she
will complete third grade in January 1996, using Spalding ... Naturally, we are
delighted with her progress, and we attribute it largely to the excellence of
The Writing Road to Reading. Thank you."
