Professional Development Specialist

Certification and Accreditation

Responsibilities and Duties:

As Professional Development Specialist, my primary responsibilities are to work with Spalding Certified Teachers, Instructors, and Executive Trainers and the candidates who are working toward Spalding Certification.  I also work with the 14 Spalding Accredited Schools and the schools working toward accreditation.  I teach both MILA courses, provide follow-up professional development and coaching.  I also assist the Curriculum Specialist in any way I am able.

Education:

BS in Elementary Education from Southern Utah University

MA in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University

Why did you become involved in your profession or industry?:

I became a teacher because I love children and I wanted to enrich their lives.  Teaching our future leaders was my way to make an impact on the world.  I taught on the Navajo Reservation for 18 years and in Chandler Unified School District for 11 years before leaving the classroom to work for Spalding Education International.  I came to work for Spalding because I know that with this method all children can and will learn.  I felt that my impact as an educator would grow exponentially by helping other teachers develop their skills in teaching children to spell, write, and read.

Other Interests:

I love to read, read, read!  I also enjoy spending time with my family.

Favorite Children’s Book(s):

My favorite children’s book has always been Where The Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak
