Academic Day One First Grade Teacher Guide

Postby GApeetz » Thu Oct 07, 2010 4:27 am

On page 43 of the PLANNING section, (1st grade guide), there are some objectives listed under the spelling lesson that I am not clear about.
Objectives 11 and 13 seem to be the same thing, what would be the difference between those two objectives?

Also, where can you get a concise statement of the purpose for:
* learning phonograms
* easy, legible, and neat handwriting
* correct sitting position
* correct pencil grip
(Spelling Objectives 3,4,5,6)

I think I just figured out why the words "dad" and "fad" are used for that Academic Day! I can't believe I didn't see it before! Those are the only words which can be spelled using the first four phonograms which were introduced!

Thanks for your insights!

Thank you for submitting your questions.

First-grade academic day 1 spelling objectives 11 and 13 are different. Objective 11 states, 'Say and write phonograms a, c, d, f'. Then in parenthesis is the word introduce. You introduce the phonograms with handwriting. Objective 13 states, 'Say and write a, c, d, f followed by WPR Step 1 in parenthesis. First, you introduce the first four phonograms, then give an oral phonogram review followed by a written phonogram review.

Purposes. . . . .

learning phonograms: WRTR page 10, first sentence. Also, Teacher's Guide, Delivering page 7, first sentence.
handwriiting: WRTR page 11, third paragraph under Teaching Handwriting with Phonograms. Also,Teacher's Guide, Delivering page 7, first paragraph.
Correct sitting position: WRTR page 12 explains how and page 5 explains why under the title, Child Centered.
Correct pencil: WRTR pages 13-14 explains how and page 5 explains why under the title, Child Centered.

You are correct about the reason for using words dad and fad on academic day 1.
