Paper Position for Left Handed Child

Postby Donnae » Wed Sep 08, 2010 11:08 pm

My daughter is left handed and I have been using the paper placement recommendation from Handwriting Without Tears and the Handedness Research Institute, which is to angle the paper so that the top LEFT corner is higher on the desk (further away from the child). This seems to be in opposition to WRTR instructions and photo on p 12-13, where the top RIGHT corner is higher on the desk and the writing arm is parallel to the top and bottom of the paper. Am I not reading this correctly, or does Spalding teach this differently than other curriculums?

If it is different, do you know why?

Thanks,
Donna

For the left-handed child, the paper will be turned the opposite way from that of a right-handed child. The paper should still be parallel to the writing (left) arm.
