Laura Appleton-Smith books?

Postby telcontar » Tue Jan 12, 2010 5:59 am

The First Grade Teacher's Guide lists about 8 decodable books by Laura Appleton-Smith, yet it seems impossible to find any of these books in print at reasonable prices. Are there alternatives that you can recommend? Specifically:

The Sunset Pond
Jen's Best Gift
Frank the Fish Gets His Wish
Meg and Jim's Sled Trip
Lin Lin and the Gulls
A Sled Dog Morning
Mr. Sanchez and the Kickball

Thank you.

Thank you for your question. Spalding has now published beginning readers since the Teacher Guides were published. Twenty Series 1 beginning readers and 24 Series 2 beginning readers include narrative writing, informative writing, and a combination we call informative-narrative writing. The books are well written with beautiful and colorful illustrations and photographs. You can view sample pages from each reader by clicking on store, then Reader 1 and/or Reader 2, and then clicking on any of the books. The books are reasonably priced and can be purchased individually or as a set through Spalding Education International. We can give you a list of the books that include the week recommended for reading according to the phonograms that have been introduced in the lesson plans in the Kindergarten and/or First-Grade Teacher Guides.
